miercoles 29 de octubre: study places vocabulary, work on weather reports, ILRN

Para el miercoles 29 de octubre:

On Wednesday, we are going to work more with the places vocabulary from Ch.4, the verbs estar and ir, and look at maps.

You are going to be doing a map comparison activity for a grade during the last part of class on Wednesday. You should study the vocabulary on p.112, the verb estar on p.115 and the prepositions of place (to the right, beside, etc) on p.115. You will be allowed to use your book for the activity, but you don't want to spend all your time looking up words.

For Monday, November 3rd, you should video record yourself giving a weather report for a Spanish-speaking city. The details can be found on Sakai under Study guides.../Assignment details/Weather report videos.  If you do not have a way to record yourself, come to class prepared on the 3rd and I'll record you. Be sure to read these instructions on Sakai before Wednesday so you can ask questions if needed.

Weather report info (note this link will likely only work if you are currently logged into Sakai.)

-Finish week 9 lab. There is only one quiz to turn in related to the weather and clothing. I highly recommend watching the cultural video even though I haven't asked you to turn anything in about it. It's very interesting.

-Do ILRN as assigned

Composition revisions due Monday

Don't forget your composition revisions are due on Monday, 10/13. You should use the code list attached to your draft to try to figure out what kind of error you had. All revisions should be typed. For the special characters (accents, etc) you can type them or just add them in by hand after printing.

Revisions are mandatory regardless of your grade on the draft.

Para el lunes 29 de septiembre:

-We will be doing the in class composition on Monday. Details are found on Sakai under Study Guides & Assignments / Assignment Details. I will have extra dictionaries in class if you don't have one.

-Do ILRN as assigned.

-Be sure to finish the weekly lab found on Sakai. The cultural part of this one is done via ILRN and is listed on Monday's due date.

Mon 22/sept: Adjective handout

For Mon. Sept. 22:

-Complete the handout on Adjective agreement and placement. We will go over this in class on Monday. I gave it out in class on Wednesday, but if you weren't here, you can use the link to download a copy.

-Read about verb conjugation on p.57-58.

-Read about possession on p.62-63.

-Do ILRN as assigned.

Don't forget to do the cultural activity from the weekly lab that's due though Sakai on Sunday night, Sept 21st. There is an article, in English, about Latino families and some questions to consider.

Wed 10/sept - Prep for test review, ILRN activities

For Wed 10/sept:

We will be practicing more with the academic subjects vocab and the two verbs, ser and tener. We will also review in general for the test on Monday. Take a little time to study beforehand so you can bring your questions to class. The study guide is also available now on Sakai. (This link will probably only work if you're already logged into Sakai on the computer.)

Do ILRN activities as assigned.

This week's lab is posted. The only thing you have to turn in for it is a vocab quiz on the academic subjects and a couple of ILRN activities. We will do the rest of the cultural investigation (plan of study comparison) in class on Wednesday. If you are not in class Wednesday, you need to do that activity on  your own to be ready for Monday's test.

Mon 9/8 - weekly lab (part due Sun!), ILRN activities

For Monday, 9/8:

-Be sure to read through the weekly lab on Sakai and do the assignments listed there. You'll see a vocabulary quiz due on Sunday night, a map exercise to bring to class completed on Monday, and references to a couple of ilrn activities.

-Do ILRN activities due for Monday.

Note about ILRN: Activities are set to be due by class time each day. If you do them after class time, ILRN will mark them late. I will manually go in and accept your late work as long as you do it before the one-week deadline set in the syllabus. It is in your best interest to try the ILRN activities at least once before class on the day they're due. That way you'll be more prepared for class.

If  you need another try on an ILRN (computer messed up, really just didn't understand and want to try again, etc.) you need to email me with the particular activity number so I can reset it.

Wed 9/3 - ILRN, school supply list comparison

For Wednesday, 9/3

The work for your first weekly lab is due. The two short quizzes are due by 11:59 pm on Sunday night - the normal lab due date. The school supply list comparison activity (p.6 in the textbook) is due on Wednesday since you are bringing a hardcopy to give me.

Do ILRN activities as assigned.

Tuesday, August 26, 2014

Wed 8/27 - ILRN and find school supply list

For Wed 8/27:

-Do ILRN activities as assigned.
Notice that if you are just now doing Monday's assignments, ILRN will mark them as "late". That is OK! As long as you do them by Monday 9/1, your grade will count. I just have to manually go in and tell ILRN that I accept your work late.

-Find an elementary school supply list for the Week 2 lab module. You should be looking for a list in English, for any elementary school grade. You'll be comparing your list with the one on p.6 which is a fifth grade class; however, you don't have to use a 5th grade list in English.

-Be sure to do the weekly lab on Sakai for Week 2. It is due on Sunday night, 8/31. The supply list activity will be turned in as hardcopy on Wednesday in class (so you get a couple of extra days for that this week.)

Friday, August 22, 2014

Mon 8/25 - Syllabus quiz, ILRN, (find a school supply list for next week)

For Monday, Aug 25th:

-Do ILRN activities as assigned on the Assignment Calendar
Remember that you only want to use one try (or two) for those activities that cover new information. Save at least your last attempt for after we've covered it in class.

-Take the syllabus quiz on Sakai. You'll see a link for it under Weekly Labs / Week 1

-In preparation for Week 2 lab module, find an elementary school supply list to use for the cultural activity. Details on that activity can be found in the Week 2 lab which is not due until Aug 31st. However, school supply lists are more easily available this week, so go ahead and get your hands on one. You can use the same list as a classmate, but you will both need a copy to do the assignment on your own.

Bienvenidos! Welcome to the homework blog - Important general information

Welcome to Sra. Hahn's SPA 111 homework blog. Here is where you'll find the homework assignments for our class during the semester - aside from the weekly lab modules.

Each class day, I'll tell you in class what the homework for the next day is. Then, I'll post it on here as well. I'm doing it as a blog so, if you're so inclined, you can subscribe to the feed and have the homework assignments available to you outside of Sakai.

There are two standing types of assignments throughout the semester:
1) ILRN activities due by 2:00 on each class day. You'll find these on the assignment calendar in ILRN at hlc.quia.com.
2) Weekly lab modules on Sakai due by 11:59 p.m. each Sunday. Log-in to Sakai and choose Weekly Labs.

The homework blog is where you can find the other homework to be done - worksheets, practices, readings, things to do and bring to class, etc. If you happen to miss class, you need to check here for the homework!
